Check with your doc: Still normal but you may have to restart your metformin which is the number one medication for now.

High glucose reading: You should call and see the physician who prescribed the metformin for you. That physician should examine you and take some blood to see how well your diabetes is controlled off metformin. Your physician can tell if you have to be on glucose lowering medication and can advise you best on your question.

Blood Sugars: A dramatic change in your blood sugars may be a red flag that there has been a shift in your metabolic profile, underlying stress or an infection, or, indeed, an evolving liver challenge. I would check with your treating doctor before deciding to start on metro in again or making any other dramatic change in your diet or lifestyle. He may well want to see you for some testing.

Diabetes : If you stopped metformin and then your values increased then i doubt there is a new problem. Metformin is effective in diabetes management, so as long as you don't have side effects to it or underlying liver or kidney disease then you can restart it. Speak with your doctor and also look for any recent changes in your diet that might have affected your sugar.

Family Practice: Your blood sugars seem to be fairly well controlled. You should however have your a1c checked. This can give you an ave over a 3month period. Metformin is an excellent medication to continue even when your blood sugars normalize. It will help prevent the progression of your diabetes.

Check w/your doctor: Check w/ your doctor. It sounds like your Insulin resistance has increased or your Insulin secretion ability has decreased. Recent infection, steroids, etc? Why did you stop your metformin in the first place? Metformin has many positive actions other than keeping glucose down - it can also delay or prevent the development of diabetes. If you're overweight, lose.
