Tender = pain: Tender typically means painful (to touch). So if your knees don't hurt, they're not tender. You'll know if they hurt! on the other hand, you can have knee pain that isn't tender but just aggravated by walking. In other words, it hurts "inside" but not upon touching. Hope this makes sense!
