Family Practice: Cause for throat pain may be hard to diagnose early on. It could be from a virus, bacterial, allergy, or even, acid reflux. Hot water may soothe your symptoms but is not the cure. Don't use burning hot water because this may cause blistering sores may also be cold fever blisters associated from the herpes virus. Be Gentle, No Hot: The usual way is to take liquid medicine or cough drops designed for the throat. The old way is to gargle with peroxide, the new way is to gargle with Chlorhexidine gluconate (brand name = Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) and needs an rx from your physician or dentist).
