My daughter is one and her doctors are considering to take out the tonsils and adenoid because of her bad sleep apnea. what are the risks for her age?

Depends on variables: In the hands of experienced ENT surgeons + a good anesthesia team, this is a routine procedure with low risk.It helps if the kid can be scheduled when there has been no recent lower respiratory tract infections that might lead to longer recovery time.

Apnea or surgery: Risks of sleep apnea are a result of poor oxygenation in the blood--can lead to developmental defects. Risks of surgery are standard for most surgeries: pain, swelling, bleeding, infection, difficulty swallowing, incomplete healing, and reactions to medications. Most surgical risks are temporary: permanent risks are rare. Apnea risks can be permanent.
