Kidney biopsy. : Abnormal blood or protein in urine and other blood tests can suggest lupus nephritis even if there are no other "extra-renal" symptoms of lupus. Only a kidney biopsy can definitively diagnose or rule out lupus nephritis. Your sister should discuss these questions with her nephrologist.
