It can be: chronic ˈkrɒnɪk (of an illness) "persisting for a long time or constantly recurring" In people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) the tendency to abdominal pain / bloating with bouts of diarrheoa or constipation can persist for some time, and indeed recur.
