Trauma: The highest risk sex is receptive anal sex without a condom. Small breaks in the mucosa (lining of anal area) can allow HIV in. Vaginal sex tends to not produce as much trauma. Sores (like herpes or syphilis) can also increase the likelihood that HIV can get inside the body and cause infection. Always use condoms for any sex.
