Recurrent BV: Can be a real annoyance. The cause is that the normal vaginal flora is not present. Normally the vagina has bacteria in it such as lactobacillus which prevent unhealthy bacteria from causing an infection. Normal flora can be decreased by douching, some antibiotics. Avoid douching, possibly taking probiotics or eating yogurt with live cultures might help. It takes time to restore the normal flora.

See below: After treatment with metronidazole, Clindamycin or tinidazole, try oral and/or vaginal lactobacillus containing probiotic preparations which have had variable success. Consider having your sexual partner treated with Metronidazole or clindamycin. Recurrent disease has been associated with colonization of the sex partner, inconsistant condom use and has been halved with estrogen contraceptives.
