It depends on damage: If the problem is mostly inflammation there is the potential that medication and therapy can make the pain go away. If there is tissue damage such as cartilage loss, or tears of the rotator cuff, then it is less likely that medication is going to resolve the problem. Radiographs, ultrasound, or MRI can be very helpful to evaluate these problems.
