See a doctor: See a dentist or physician who can prescribe any number of topical medications that will work better. Sometimes there are also conditions that may contribute to delayed healing and need to be addressed.

A topical steriod: A topical steriod such as kenalog (triamcinolone) in orabase 0.1% is excellent for treatment of most traumatic lesions in the mouth. It will coat and protect the sore and also numb the area. Healing is usually fairly rapid and pain free.
