Misunderstanding?: Tricky call. Serum amyloid-associated protein levels won't establish a diagnosis of familial mediterranean fever; today you want a geneticist or genetics lab to do this for you. It's an important diagnosis not to miss or to make in error; lifelong rx will make the fatal complication of amylodosis less likely, while an erroneous diagnosis results in lifelong unnecessary rx. Be proactive.
