A member asked:

Is there a herbal treatment for familial mediterranean fever?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes: Colchicine, the mainstay of fmf treatment, is an herb -- from the beautiful crocus plant. It staves off or averts the dreadful, common, and invariably fatal complication of amyloidosis, which is the real danger of fmf. We are fortunate that mother nature has provided something this helpful. Best wishes to you for a fine question.

Apparently not.: The treatment for this disease is mainly analgesics and nsaids like diclofenac. Colchicine, a drug mainly used in gout, decreases attack frequency in patients, and adding Anakinra to the Colchicine regimen is successful in cases resistant to Colchicine therapy alone.
