No: Klonopin and Xanax (alprazolam) are both benzodiazepines (bzd) as are Valium and ativan. Bzd are very useful for initial treatment of anxiety. Unfortunately, they are also highly addictive and frequently abused because they can cause euphoria. They can also be very sedating. In combination with alcohol or in excess they can be fatal. Xanax (alprazolam) is the most addictive and most often abused.

Addictive: Both Xanax (alprazolam) and klinopin belong to the benzodiazepine family and are addictive. Their withdrawal symptom timeline differ due to longer half life of klonopin.
