Can be serious: Any infection in the mouth has the potential to become very serious. I have witnessed a dental infection nearly being fatal due to failure to seek treatment right away. If the infection is in the upper jaw, it can progress to the sinises and the brain. If in the lower jaw, it can progress to the chest cavity. These are rare occurrances, but can happen. See the dentist asap.

Dental Infection : Should not be taken for granted. Any proliferation of bacteria especially in the mouth which is close to the brain and heart should be given an immediate attention specially to medically compromised and old people. Bacteria goes to the blood stream and circulates in the body. If there's dead cells inside the mouth, it can also cause halitosis (bad breath).
