Yes, but see Dr: Swelling follows injury to try to protect the area. A bad pull/tear will swell and cold compresses can reduce this somewhat (better before it starts, but can help once present also). Might be tricep or other muscle tear--should see your work's work-comp dr if not improving in 2-3 days. Try to limit movement of arm, elevate, cold compresses.

Swelling is common: After any injury swelling is common . An x-ray can show if there is an underlying fracture. You may have a soft tissue injury if it is just a sprain and may have damaged the muscle, tendon, or ligaments in the area. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

No: Any atypical swelling is not normal but a reaction secondary to a traumatic event. A lot depends on how you injured it. Eccentric contraction or overloading of the elbow can injure a number of tendons and ligaments that surround the elbow. It is also important to note whether or not there was a pop or a deformity associated with the injury. If the swelling does not improve i would recc evaluation.
