Many causes: It is possible that he may have seborrhoic dermatitis which could cause his hair to fall out. Other possibility is hypothyroidism or may just be a normal phenomenon.

Hi, Not certain if this is normal or not but I noticed when brushing my 4year old daughters hair, that her hair pulls out of her scalp in patches at times from the root. It is literally in patches at times.
