A member asked:

Hi, not certain if this is normal or not but i noticed when brushing my 4year old daughters hair, that her hair pulls out of her scalp in patches at times from the root. it is literally in patches at times.

Worth an exam: There are many possible causes for allopecia (hair loss) but in children losing large clumps of hair, particularly if it leaves bald patches, is not considered normal. From fungal infections of the scalp, to doing their hair too tightly, to autoimmune disease, there are many possible reasons for the hair loss. A pediatrician should evaluate the child when possible.
