A member asked:

Every year tested neg.for hep c.. is it possible that you can have it and it does not come up on blood work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rarely: There are two mains times this can happen. If someone has recently been infected (acute hepatitis c) they might not have developed antibodies yet. Another is if someone has a very weak immune system like advanced HIV or cancer chemotherapy. In both cases the hcv viral load is positive. If neither apply, negative almost always means no infection.
