Acne : Acne can occur on the scalp. We also sometimes call it folliculitis--inflammation (or occasionally infection) of hair follicles. Doxycycline is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for both acne and folliculitis or topical antibiotic solution like clindamycin. There are no good options for otc treatment--shampoos, etc. Rarely allergic reactions to medications can present as pustules in the scalp.
