Sensation of moving: Vertigo is the sensation that you are moving when you are not. It can present as spinning dizziness, swaying, or tilting. It is a symptoms of a number of conditions, but usually those that affect the inner ear vestibular system. This system maintains balance and alert the brain to body position and movement. If you are experiencing this, see your physician for evaluation.

So, if you go to your doctor and say you are spinning and dizzy and he/she says you have vertigo, all they have done is give a fancy medical name to what you just described. The thing to always ask, and should be explained, is that the vertigo is caused by "x". Vertigo is a symptom of many condition.

Depends how long: Acute vertigo from a viral illness is best treated by Prednisone and valium. I am not a big fan of Antivert (meclizine) preferring Valium or other meds like it. Long term vertigo is best treated with vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Vertigo that occurs only when moving your head while in bed can be treated by a procedure to reposition loose calcium deposits. Any question see an ENT doctor.

Antivert (meclizine) as preventi: It is patients with chronic vertigo that are most bothered by it. In my experience apley's maneuver has often failed but Antivert (meclizine) on regular basis in often dosages which are higher than pdr control the vertigo.

Dix-Hallpike Rx help: True vertigo is usually an inner ear problem. Acutely it can be from an infection - time and a medication called "antivert" can help. More chronic conditions can be from fuid or even small stones in the inner ear mechanism. Some simple maneuvers (dix-hallpike and epley) can often bring dramatic relief. Vertigo can also be associated with some serious problems so get it checked out if it is ongoing.

Vertigo exercises: Vertigo is often best treated by simple exercises. Many times the problem is due to crystals in the tiny inner ear canals, especially if the vertigo is triggered by looking up or down or rolling over in bed. Sit in the middle of a couch; lie down on your side (to the side that cause the dizziness), sit up, then lie down on the other side. Repeat 5 to 10 times one after another, twice daily.

Dizziness : It is the sensation that the room is spinning around you. Its generally due to a problem with the inner ear. There are some simple head tilt maneuvers that can deal with this, along with some medication. Hope this helps!

Dizziness: Vertigo is a sensation of movement or dizziness when you have no reason to be. Image how you feel as a kid when you would quickly spin and then stop. Now image you feel that way without control or whenever you close your eyes.

Cause: The most important thing is to make sure the cause is not a serious or central one. There are medications that can be prescribed. Sea-Legs over the counter may help or the is a maneuver you can do called the eplys maneuver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SLm76jQg3g
