Possible TMJ: Jaw aches that occur over and over are often due to spasms of the jaw muscles. These muscles control the opening and closing of the jaw and they are tied with the jaw joint (TMJ). Spasms of the muscles due to an inflammation of the joint or due to chewing incorrectly can cause these spasms. You need to be examined by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to determine the cause of the muscle spasms.
