Neuropathy: All sensation is a perception of your brain to the nerve input from your extremities. When the nerve input is difficult for your brain to interpret, it will use its experience to characterize it. When a nerve has become sick from chemical injury such as diabetes or trauma, your brain may interpret the input from a visit damage nerves as burning (as well as many other sensations including itching).
