It is normal for the: To swell when you sleep fluid that is extracellular mredistributes when you sleep . Diet salt and some medical conditions that affect water retention may influence this . A salty meal is a common cause unless other health issues exist.

You're not a zebra: Zebras, horses and giraffes sleep standing up. Since humans sleep lying down our hands swell at night from water that redistributes itself from our legs. That is why we get puffy eyelids too. The swelling pinches nerves.
