Many possibilities: Some causes of painful “lumps” may include: bony overgrowths, soft tissue masses, ganglions, fibromas, cysts, and callus. Have the feet evaluated by a professional to get the right diagnosis.

It could be...: The base of the fifth metatarsal. Sometimes these can become really prominent in some people and get painful. There are many other possibilities, so i would recommend that you see a podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment.

See a Podiatrist.: This sounds like it is probably the base of your fifth metatarsals causing some pressure callouses. May also be plantar fibromas but less likely if it is on both feet in the same spot. See a podiatrist, get some x-rays. Probably a very simple problem with a simple solution. If the first doctor you see suggests surgery, get a second opinion.
