Peel complications: Potential complications include hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, scarring, infection, cold sores, uneven color or unattractive appearance to skin, need for repeated treatments, sun sensitivity (and increased need for sunblock), swelling and displeasure with result. Hyperpigmentation or dark spots are the most common. Cold sores can be prevented usually with medication. Most of these are rare.
