Cautiously: All ssri can potentially effect platelet function. Mirtazepine may be an alternative which could potentially effect other blood cells, but platelet count or function not specifically mentioned in my sources. Discuss with your doctor for other possibilities.

Yes you can, but....: It is wise to check a platelet count before starting the medication and being vigilant regarding symptoms of platelet hypofunctioning. Both functional and quantitative abnormalities of platelets can accompany ssri treatments. That being said, I have cared for many patients with thrombocytopenia who have simultaneously been treated with escitalopram or related antidepressants.
