A member asked:

I don't have time to see a dr due to my work schedule so would going to the er be to ridiculous?

Yes: Emergency rooms are for emergencies. Use of the er, merely for convenience is a tremendous expense, and can overload the er so that it is not available for those who truly need the services due to severe illness, heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, etc. Consider an urgent care center-they usually operate evenings and weekends to accomodate your work schedule.

Not necessarily: Many ers have 'fast track' areas for patient with important but not emergent problems; there are many free standing urgent care clinics which may be of service.
