Facial nerve paralys: Bell's palsy is a viral infection that causes the facial nerve to no longer function. It can lead to weakness or paralysis of one side of the face. If treated early with high-dose steroids the paralysis does not last as long and the damage is not as permanent. An evaluation is important because you have to make sure other problems are not causing the paralysis.

Bell's palsy.: I've had this myself. There is no specific treatment. Sometimes a short course of oral steroids may reduce the intensity and length of time this goes on. It may be viral related. Usually it is gone in about 2 weeks if there is no nerve damage.

A few things: Most doctors would prescribe a short course of high dose steroids, and anti-viral medication. Further workup is needed if it is not getting better within a few weeks, or if there are other symptoms such as pain, rash, other body weakness, etc.
