Consider asthma: Prolonged cough after an upper respiratory illness can be an indication of reactive airway disease or a form of asthma-cough variant. It is common to have cough and excess sinus secretions persisting 2-3 weeks following a normal cold but there should be gradual improvement. If the cough lasts much longer especially if there is some wheezing then asthma treatments might help reduce cough duration.
