Not allergy: One does not get allergy to small molecules in general. It is more likely that it is causing irritation of the esophagus or causing gastroesophageal reflux.

May be: There are genetic variations in how people metabolize alcohol. Certain people of asian origin are considered slow acetylators and may have exaggerated side effects from alcohol. I am not sure if that is the case with you, but it is something that might be worth looking into.
