Now: As long as the staples or sutures are out you can begin scar massage now. I usually tell patients to use anything with a high concentration of vitamin e. Can even take capsules and break open and rub on wound. There are creams you can buy at the pharmacy (me derma) but they can be a bit expensive. Have also had patients use cocoa butter. Good luck, luckily its on your butt so nobody can see.

Don't waste your $$: All scars go through a process of maturation that can take up to a year. Initially, surgical scars look good but may get more prominent, redder and itchier at 6-8 weeks, when their blood flow peaks. They will start to fade after that. I usually recommend nothing for scar treatment (except sun avoidance) in my patients unless the scar does not seem to be maturing normally.
