No, but ...: ...Inflammatory illness, especially if generalized (e.g., lupus, to choose a serious example) can affect the brain, and illnesses that affect the brain adversely do seem often to provoke depression.

Not quite yet: There is evidence that inflammation in the body -- evidenced by high c-reactive protein and other cytokines -- may be linked to depression. It's also possible that depression itself may increase inflammation. Inflammation is part of the body's healing response, and it's important to keep it where it needs to be & not overtake the entire organism. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21927805.
