Probably not.: Most sliding hiatal hernias would not give you that sensation. It would also not cause cramping pain normally. I would see your doctor and if your symptoms (heartburn or trouble swallowing) are severe, consider repair.

Yes: Large hiatal hernias are known as paraesophageal hernias. These involve the stomach protruding into and twisting in the cheat. I don't think so: Hiatal hernias slide, not pop. Perhaps you have some displaced costal cartilage, which is normally present between the ribs and the sternum ("breast bone"). Hiatal hernias are very common and are usually assymptomatic, although heartburn and sometimes regurgitation may occur. Sometimes very large hernias of the stomach into the chest cavity may cause pressure and discomfort deep in the chest.
