A ENT doctor may: Need to inspect his nasal passage under sedation or anesthesia to get a good look. Most things kids put up their noses don't show up on x-ray. There may be something too high up to see without special equipment for visualization & removal. It's important to find & remove, to prevent erosion of the mucous membrane. Ask your pediatrician for a referral to an ENT who's good with kids.
