2 months : You should give the bone, sternum, 2 months to heal. You have wires to hold the bone together. No driving until you are off pain meds. You need to be able to have a normal reaction time. You can walk as much as you like. Plan on a rehabilitation schedule. You'll get stronger every day but don't over do it. It is wonderful that you are recovering. Keep your surgeon aware of your recovery.

Surgical approach?: The incision used will dictate activity rather than the use of dhca. I would assume you had a sternotomy (through the breastbone). You should lift no more than 5-10# for 2-3 months until the underlying bone heals, after which you should be able to resume normal activity. Have this discussion with your surgeon who should outline the plan for return to full activity.
