Pt...: Nsaids (like Ibuprofen or mobic) , Neurontin and physical therapy. If they don't work consider a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack or epidural... Then consider surgical options... Narcotics not needed.

Lots of options: As you are probably aware, narcotics are effective, but have risks of dependence and toelrancce develops. Options are really dictated by examination. Rehab medicine docs are often good resources to explore a range of options such non-narcotic pain relievers, muscle relaxers, and cognitive behavior pain management techniques, rest, pt, and even nerve stimulators and tns units.
