Get it evaluated: If you had an injury it may be a fracture, sprain or an injured tendon. Get seen by a professional to determine the cause. You may need and x-ray or an MRI to identify the problem.

Bump Ankle: It sounds like there may be a hematoma or blood clot under the skin, but you should get it checked out. Try warm compresses to the area and make sure you look for signs of infections (warm, painful, red, draining).
