Ask the Orthodontist: Every orthodontist has his\her own preferences for keeping their patient's teeth and gums clean and healthy during treatment. Ask yours not only what they recommend, but have someone actually show you how to use those aids for maximum efficiency. Congratulations on your road to straighter teeth and a nicer smile.

Personal feeling : I think the best electric is the sonicare toothbrush. This works on ultrasound waves which cause the brush to vibrate and get the toothpaste around the brackets and wire. Others like oral b works with mechanical action of the brush. In my opinion you have to work a little harder.

Sonicare: Personally, i think the sonicare electric toothbrush, along with a waterpic is the best choice for patients with braces.

Several things: The one that you spend the most time with and attention to detail. Actually, there are many great products available with some of the most popular being oral-b and sonicare. A traditional, soft-bristle brush will also do an excellent job. Consider the sonicare air-floss as well as an adult to supplement your brushing and flossing regime.

Manual Brush +: 1) use a soft manual toothbrush. 2) place the brush where the teeth and the gum join together. 3) move the brush in circles. 4) do all teeth this way on the face side and the tongue side. 5) initially the gum may bleed because you are cleaning out an open sore, however this bleeding will stop and the tissue will now begin to heal. 6) follow up with a water pik spraying water in circles same places.

Electric toothbrush: Any toothbrush will work if used properly, even a manual non-electric toothbrush.

Sonicare could work: I usually recommend either sonicare or oral b electric toothbrush. In your specific case i may recommend a sonicare electric toothbrush along with a waterpik or hydrofloss oral irrigator. Check with your orthodontist and hygienist. Keeping your teeth clean is paramount to the success of the treatment. I usually recommend more frequent dental cleanings to compliment the orthodontic treatment.

Oral B or sonacare: Both are excellent-- just a matter of personal preference. Sonacare tends to have stronger vibrations-- some people love them (myself included), others like the oral b better. But both are great.

It's not the type: It's the application. No matter what brush, must brush 2 full minutes by the clock 2x/day. That will get teeth 75% clean. To clean the last 25%, where a toothbrush can't reach, use floss or proxibrush or rubber tip daily. Water pik will help keep gums healthy and get you out of braces sooner. Get one and use it daily.
