A member asked:

What happenes to your muscles and tendons if your in a cast or brace to long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

ATROPHY: Muscles shrink during periods of immobilization. However, tendons and ligaments are allowed to heal. A slow and controlled rehabilitation period should be used to initiate movement into the joints and resume use of the soft tissues after a longer period of immobilization. The muscle strength and size usually will return quickly after normal use has resumed.
