?nerve irritation: One of the more comon causes of "shooting pain" is when a nerve gets 'pinched' or irritated, such as that which occurs in "sciatica." if you are getting to the point where your feet get numb, you need to se a dr. And get a clinical exam with possible diagnostic testing performed. Good luck.

Many things: When back pain shoots into the legs, and is associated with numbness or weakness, it needs to be evaluated. Many people have low back pain but don't necessarily have pain shooting into the legs or neurological symptoms. Numbness or weakness can signal a problem with the lower spine or the nerve roots as they exit the spine. You should see your doctor.
