Eczema: If the cracks include little blisters, and occur on the bottom of your sole, it could be eczema, an inflammatory condition of the skin, best treated with cortisone creams or ointments. If the cracks occur on your heels and involve thick calluses, it's probably because you wear sandals or open back shoes. Try changing your shoe style to one with a closed heel.

Moisturizing lotions: I like water-based moisturizing lotions. My favorites are dml lotion and dml forte cream. These are water based, and don't have any fragrences or colorings that could cause skin irritations. http://www.personandcovey.com/productdetail.asp?productid=19.
