A member asked:

During a heart attack what would you expect the patients blood pressure to indicate?

Variable: Depending on the severity and amount of damage, the pressure could be very high due to pain and anxiety, or low because of the shock caused by a poorly contracting heart. Bottom line is never wait with symptoms. Get to an emergency room where life saving care can be initiated.

Heart attack: Blood pressure is basically the forward output of blood from the heart into the arteries. During a heart attack BP varies. Sometimes its normal, at times if the heart muscle has suffered a large heart attack and weakens the BP can be low requiring assistance.

Highly variable : Pts can be hypertensive in the midst of a heart attack and very low/hypotensive when in cardiogenic shock.
