Too many reasons: The regular menstrual cycle needs the brain, ovary and uterus to communicate well. Problems at any level can result in an irregular cycle. A fairly common reason for an irregular cycle is irregular ovulation, or no ovulation. But thyroid or other endocrine diseases, polyps or fibroids, ovarian cysts- all reasons for an irregular period. You want to find the diagnosis before treating, ususally.
