Gastroenteritis: I prefer to use gastroenteritis to describe what people refer to as the 'stomach flu', vomiting, diarrhea, sometimes accompanied by fever. It is usually casused by a viruses-this year we are seeing a lot of norovirus. Gastroenteritis can also be caused by bacteria-like e. Coli, salmonella, shigella, yersinia, campylobacter. It is not influenza (respiratory illnes, longer lasting, severe).
