Red prior to menses: The dark brown is oxidized blood on your pad, and the red blood is fresh blood. It would seem unlikely that you're pregnant bleeding 5 days prior to menses, but that is possible. I suggest that if you're trying to conceive that you have an endometrial biopsy and Progesterone in the next cycle around the time that your spotting.
