You may have : Strained some of the tendons & ligaments. Hold off push-ups & other wrist stress for a couple of wks, (substitute other arm exercises), then gradually resume, starting w wall push-ups, then bench, then floor push-ups . For now, use ice packs 3 times a day (frozen peas work well). Ibuprofen for a few days to decrease inflammation. When pain free, start stretching your wrists.

Not Sure: The wrist is a complex joint and can often pop when moved in different directions. If the occassional popping does not hurt, don't worry about it. However, painful popping even without an injury can be due to several problems such a overuse, ligament strain or joint laxity. Do push ups with the wrist straight to avoid pain. Wrist is very weak when maximally extended.
