Exercise: Exercise is a hue issue for pcos: it helps a lot. For diet - limit processed foods, limit especially processed carbs. Focus on veggies, fruits, healthy protein (fish, chicken). The dash diet is one good option. Another good choice is a low-glycemic diet. Metformin is very appropriate.

Lower carb, Exercise: Many women with pcos gain weight or find it hard to lose. Moderately low carb diets (south beach, weight watchers), complex carbs instead of simple: brown rice, whole wheat bread/pasta, less sugars, more protein, can help, as well as portion control. Exercise - do weights and cardio at least 3 x a week: weights increase muscle mass and burns more calories. Some lose weight on metformin.

Fitness: Easy on the grease and sugar; folks tend to overeat them. You will probably help yourself tremendously by finding an aerobic exercise type that you enjoy and can devote yourself intensively to. Talk with your physician about this.
