Bacterial vaginosis: Bacterial vaginosis is the most common vaginal infection. It is an overgrowth of normal vaginal bacteria, not a sexually transmitted infection. When it mixes with blood or semen the ph gets elevated releasing the fishy odor. It is easily fixed with antibiotics. You wil need to be tested for other infections but this is the most likely.

See a doctor: Usually brown discharge is blood. Sources of blood from the vagina may vary, but usually would be coming from the uterus. Whether this discharge is normal depends on where you are in your cycle and your medical history. A possible cause of the odor and discharge is infection, and this should be ruled out by your doctor.
