Here's the lineup:: If it's a UTI (urinary tract infection), it will likely get worse and you will feel miserable! some people try flushing their system with a lot of water - and sometimes it works. But if you get worse, you should be evaluated. Other possibilities include stds, so consider this as you figure out what to do. About the cold? There's a saying: it'll last 7 days if you treat it, and a week if you don't.

Does light bleeding in early pregnancy mean I am having a miscarriage?

Dr. David Fein

No: There are many benign causes for spotting or bleeding early in pregnancy, and 30% of all women with normal pregnancy outcomes will actually have bleeding in the first trimester. Of course it is important to contact your physician if you are having bleeding with your pregnancy, but it does not mean the pregnancy will end in miscarriage.

Yes it can: The most common cause of colds are viruses. These can in turn become bacterial infections that can affect the upper respiratory system. Signs to look for when concerned that your has turned into an upper respiratory infection include sinus pain or earache. If you are producing increased nasal discharge that is green to dark yellow in color then be concerned about a bacterial infection.

A 32-year-old member asked:

Does trimethoprim work faster than macrodantin (nitrofurantoin) for a uti?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Simon Kimm
Urology 16 years experience
Not necessarily.: For uncomplicated bacterial uti, if both organisms are susceptible to the antibiotics, there is minimal difference between the two agents. Both agents are generally good choices for initial therapy. However, if there is a risk that the UTI has progressed to become a kidney infection, Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is superior, because Macrodantin does not penetrate the tissues of the kidney well.
