No: Beta thal minor is a lab curiosity that may interfere if she wants to be an olympic sprinter but otherwise will not affect her life. Alpha thal minor is even less different from normal. She does need the heads-up on thal to plan a happy family should she marry someone like herself.

No: Thalassemia minor means she is a carrier, and it not affect her weight or height. The doctor can check to see if her weight and height are normal for her, based upon her father's and mother's heights, and their racial background. The doctor can check for causes of small size, if the child still seems unusually small after taking into consideration the parents' sizes.
